Best Team Building Locations in Berlin: 7 Areas Compared

Berlin is huge — nearly nine times the size of Paris — and every district has its own character. For a team event, the location shapes everything: the atmosphere, the logistics and the stories your team will tell afterwards. Here are seven areas we recommend, with honest pros and cons.

1. Brandenburg Gate & Pariser Platz

The Brandenburg Gate is Berlin's most famous landmark and the ideal meeting point for a team event. Completed in 1791 and crowned by the Quadriga, it stood for decades right next to the Wall and became the symbol of reunification in 1989 (visitBerlin). Pariser Platz in front of it is car-free and easy to find, and the Reichstag with its glass dome is a few minutes' walk away. It is also the starting point of our Brandenburg Gate & Checkpoint Charlie route — and one of the reasons Berlin is ideal for team building.

Getting there: S+U Brandenburger Tor station is right on the square.

2. Gendarmenmarkt

Often called Berlin's most beautiful square, Gendarmenmarkt combines the Konzerthaus with the French and German Cathedrals. The two almost identical domed towers are a gift for riddles ("which one is which?"), and the Schiller Monument in front of the Konzerthaus is perfect for photo tasks. Restaurants around the square make it a great place for the finale. It is about a 15-minute walk from the Brandenburg Gate along Unter den Linden and Friedrichstraße.

Getting there: U Stadtmitte is two minutes away; U Unter den Linden is a short walk north.

3. Museum Island & Nikolaiviertel

Museum Island is a UNESCO World Heritage Site (since 1999) with five world-class museums, framed by the Berlin Cathedral and the Spree. A short walk away, the Nikolaiviertel with St. Nicholas' Church is where Berlin was born in the 13th century. Add Bebelplatz — site of the 1933 book burning, today marked by Micha Ullman's underground memorial of empty shelves — and the 368-metre TV Tower on Alexanderplatz, and you have a route full of contrasts. Getting there: U Museumsinsel (U5) or S Hackescher Markt; the Nikolaiviertel is a few minutes from S+U Alexanderplatz.

4. Checkpoint Charlie & the Berlin Wall

For many international guests, the Cold War is the reason they are curious about Berlin. Checkpoint Charlie was the best-known crossing point between East and West, where American and Soviet tanks faced each other in October 1961. Remains of the Wall can be found nearby on Niederkirchnerstraße, and the Berlin Wall Memorial on Bernauer Straße preserves 1.4 km of the former border strip. Getting there: U Kochstraße / Checkpoint Charlie (U6); about a 20-minute walk from the Brandenburg Gate.

5. Kreuzberg & Friedrichshain

Kreuzberg and Friedrichshain show the alternative, creative Berlin — street art, markets, canals and food from every corner of the world. The East Side Gallery, 1,316 metres of the Wall painted in 1990 by 118 artists from 21 countries, runs along the Spree in Friedrichshain. A guided street art walk is a good way to explore both districts.

Getting there: S+U Warschauer Straße or S Ostbahnhof for the East Side Gallery; U Görlitzer Bahnhof or U Kottbusser Tor for Kreuzberg.

• Ideal for: start-ups, creative agencies, food-focused programmes, evening events
• Watch out for: fewer classic landmarks for history-based tasks

6. Tiergarten

Berlin's great central park covers about 210 hectares between the Brandenburg Gate and Zoo station (visitBerlin). Paths, lakes, the Victory Column and beer gardens make it a good choice for relaxed outdoor programmes, picnics and sports-based team games — or a summer activity before dinner.

Getting there: the eastern edge starts right at the Brandenburg Gate; S Tiergarten and S Bellevue serve the western and northern parts.

• Watch out for: large distances between points; less suitable in winter

7. Tempelhofer Feld

Tempelhof Airport closed in 2008; since 2010, its airfield has been a public park of more than 300 hectares — runways included (Grün Berlin). It is unique in Europe and great for large-group formats, cycling, kite activities or a picnic finale with a view of the old terminal building. Many guided bike tours include a lap on the runways.

Getting there: U Tempelhof or U Paradestraße (U6) on the western side, U Boddinstraße (U8) on the eastern side.
